On February 8, nearly 150 middle and high school students from Clark County, Washington, participated in the 10th annual North County Honor Band. The program culminated in a public performance of challenging and diverse pieces at Hockinson High School.
The North County Honor Band recognizes the dedication and talent of student musicians from 13 middle schools and seven high schools in Clark County, Washington. A panel of local band directors selected student musicians for this prestigious event from a pool of regional applicants.
The Honor Band program provides an opportunity for young musicians to collaborate with peers, refine their skills, and perform under the direction of renowned conductors. This year, Danielle Davey, Director of Bands and Instructor of Music at Mt. Hood Community College, and Megan Shultz, 2024 School Band & Orchestra Washington Director of the Year, served as guest conductors.
“North County Honor Band is a team effort among band directors from smaller middle and high schools in Clark County. It gives talented student musicians the chance to experience playing in a high-level band,” said Corey McEnry, band director at Hockinson High School. “These students put on a stellar performance that really showcased their skills.”
Student musicians in the ESD 112 region were also notified this winter about selections to participate in the Lower Columbia River Music Educators Association Honor Band, Pacific Lutheran University Northwest High School Honor Band, Western International Band Clinic Honor Band, and the National Association for Music Education All-Northwest Honor Band.
