More than 450 educators and community partners attended the 2018 Annual Safety Summit, sponsored by the Clark County Safe Schools Task Force.
Attendees represented 13 school districts from throughout the ESD 112 region, including two private schools and the Washington state schools for the deaf and blind.
After a keynote presentation by Clark County Emergency Management Division Manager Scott Johnson, Participants had the opportunity to select from 27 different breakout session topics. Examples include:
- Trauma-Informed Communication
- Gangs in Our Community
- Rapid Responder and Easy Alert
- Incident Command System
- Drug Recognition
- Threat Assessment
- Suicide Prevention and Early Intervention
- Understanding the Dynamics of an Emergency
- Sex Trafficking and Homeless Youth Services
In addition to ESD 112 and school district staff, several community partners presented sessions including public health, juvenile justice, CRESA, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, and the Boys and Girls Club.
“We appreciate all of the professionals who volunteered their valuable time to come and share their expertise on a variety of important school safety issues,” says Scott LaBar, ESD 112 Loss Control Supervisor, who helps coordinate the event each year.
Summit attendees once again gave the event rave reviews, citing “great presentations, lots of choices, and valuable topics.”
