What is Child Developmental Screening?
Children are screened in the areas of motor, concepts, speech and language. A hearing and vision screening may also be done. A developmental screening can identify children who are in need of further evaluation and/or participation in Early Intervention or Early Childhood Services that address their areas of need.
Early Intervention (EI) Benefits
- Early identification and implementation of services during the most crucial time in your child’s brain development.
- Services are designed for children in the natural environment of their homes, in child care, or in preschool programs.
- Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) is a written plan for services to eligible children and families.
- Transition Plan prior to age 3 is a plan developed for your child when leaving early intervention at age three.

Infants and Toddlers (0-3 years) Developmental Screening
ESD 112 is the ESIT local lead agency for Clark, Klickitat, Pacific and Skamania Counties. Call 360-750-7507 to talk with the Intake Coordinator about concerns for your child or a child in your care.
Washington State Department of Early Learning’s program Early Support for Infants and Toddlers (ESIT) offers free developmental screenings for all children 0-3 years. At the screening, parents discuss their concerns with a Family Resources Coordinator (FRC).
The screening tool used by the FRC is called the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ). The ASQ is a tool you can use to check your child’s development. It’s easy to use, doctor-recommended, and teaches you to recognize developmental stages as your child grows such as:
- Communication – how kids use language
- Gross Motor – how kids move their bodies
- Fine Motor – how kids use their hands
- Problem Solving – how kids interact with their world
- Personal-Social – how kids calm themselves down
To learn more about this screening, visit Parent123.org. This page will allow you to go through the questionnaire online, print it and bring it to the screening appointment we have scheduled for you and your child. If you choose to submit it on the Parent123 website then they will have someone contact you for review. If you select this option, be sure to let them know that you have an appointment with a Family Resource Coordinator in your county.

ESA Districts
ESD 112 schedules developmental screenings for children ages 3-5 years for families living in districts which are part of the Educational Services Agency (ESA). If you reside in districts that are members of the ESA, please call ESD 112 at 360.750-7500 to discuss your child’s development or schedule a screening.
