In October 2024, the Association of Washington Student Leaders (AWSL) hosted 12 Fall Leadership Days for middle school students across the state. These regional workshops unite student leaders together to explore self-development, leadership, and their role in shaping school culture. Thousands of students gathered at the following schools in Educational Service District 112 and nine other locations statewide, including:
- La Center Middle School – La Center School District (Oct. 1)
- Liberty Middle School – Camas School District (Oct. 3)
- Hilltop Middle School – Ocean Beach School District (Oct. 10)
Fall Leadership Days are great opportunities for students to connect with others
Workshop topics included improving school climate, leadership responsibility, team building, project planning, school engagement strategies, and an interactive idea exchange.
“The energy and enthusiasm from these young leaders is truly inspiring. Fall Leadership Days are great opportunities for students to connect with others, share ideas, and realize the impact they can have on their school culture,” said James Layman, AWSL Director.
Each year, AWSL aims to equip student leaders with the knowledge and skills to create positive change, emphasizing the importance of empathy, collaboration, and vision. As participants left the workshops, they carried with them fresh perspectives and a renewed commitment to creating a more positive school climate.
