About Florens
ESD 112’s Florens Academy empowers students who experience severe cognitive, communication, and behavioral challenges to achieve greater independence. As a therapeutic day program, Florens provides intensive behavioral support for students who experience significant developmental delays, offering more than traditional life skills classrooms. It currently serves upper elementary, middle, high school, and post-secondary students who require 1:1 or 2:1 support and who have not been successful in abating aggression and/or self-harm.
Our Goal
Florens Academy aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for greater independence through the expertise of skilled staff and trauma-informed, best-practice approaches.

Who We Serve
A program of Educational Service District 112, Florens Academy provides support to Southwest Washington students, upper elementary to age 22. Our students may experience varying degrees of cognition, yet all share a common need for behavioral interventions and support within a therapeutic environment.
Support for Parents
Florens Academy also provides extensive support to parents, including an extended school-day schedule to support working families, mental health resources, connections to regional and state services, and parent education opportunities.

Located on the ESD 112 campus in Vancouver, Washington, next to the Spero Center, Florens is dedicated to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for students and their families.

Academic Support
Providing equitable and inclusive access to the general education curriculum with individualized interventions.
Adaptive Behavior Training
Teaching social skills, independent living skills, and personal care based on each student’s needs.
Communication Enhancement
Implementing functional communication training to improve interactions and reduce frustration that can lead to maladaptive behaviors.
Motor Skills Development
Enhancing motor planning and coordination to aid daily living activities, reduce frustration, and provide alternatives to aggressive behaviors.
Safety Measures
Promoting skills that ensure safety and independence according to the student’s functioning level.
Transition Services
Collaborating with Individual Education Plans (IEP) teams to create person-centered, effective transition plans based on the student’s preferences, strengths, needs and goals.
