At 1-2-3 Grow and Learn playgroups, an ESD 112 early learning program, families of children ages 0-5 interact and observe as their kids gain important early childhood development skills. The program prepares children for kindergarten by encouraging social-emotional learning and building community in a school setting.

“1-2-3 Grow and Learn provides opportunities for children to learn through play, for adults to learn how to support that learning, and to build a community for children and their caregivers,” said Julie Jacobson, Early Learning Program Coordinator at ESD 112.

Children in 1-2-3 Grow and Learn programs across Clark County participate in activities to promote early childhood learning and development. Instructors incorporate story time, playtime, and snack time into each day. Programs are currently hosted in Washougal on Wednesday mornings and in Vancouver on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

“We’re just thrilled to have the opportunity to build positive relationships with our youngest learners and their families,” said Wendy Morril, Principal at Hathaway Elementary School. “We can do that in a really enriching way with 1-2-3 Grow and Learn.”

Developmental screening and family resources are also available to families through 1-2-3 Grow and Learn. Program staff help match families with resources, including assistance meeting basic needs and support with developmental support referrals. These services help to remove barriers to best prepare young learners for success at school.

“It’s a great overall social-emotional support for families with children ages birth to five,” said Leslie DeShazer, Early Learning Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) at Washougal School District.

Programs in Washougal are provided in partnership with Washougal School District and Vancouver programs are supported by Clark County Mental Health Tax Grant Funds.
