Teachers in Longview and Kalama school districts are working hard to stay on the cutting edge of integrating technology into their classrooms. And ESD 112 staff has been there to provide essential training as they implement Google Apps and Chromebooks in their classrooms.
ESD 112 Professional Development Manager Katherine Livick works with individual teachers during their prep or during class to help them to teach lessons using technology. Together, they plan lessons, find tools to work more efficiently and engage students, and approach the basics of using Google tools and Chromebooks in the classroom. Both districts are Digital Media Center subscribers and they are able to incorporate information about online research tools in their learning. “Feedback has been great so far,” said Katherine. “Both districts report increased usage of Google tools, and teachers often exclaim at the end of a 20 or 30 minute session, ‘Wow! I didn’t know I could learn so much in such a short time!’” “That’s pretty gratifying to hear,” she said.
